The beginning of your journey.

Welcome curious heart, to the beginning of your journey. First of all, I want you to find a moment of gratitude for your willingness and bravery to take the first few steps of your soul's evolution. Let me tell you, just to be able to make that choice, that commitment, is huge and must not go unacknowledged. Take a moment, take a breath and sit in this acknowledgement of your courage to step into a deeper, more expansive version of yourself.

The journey of yoga, of coming back to yourself over and over again is not always easy. In those moments where you do meet yourself, it is nothing short of pure elation and delight. However, on the days where you are peeling back layer upon layer of past pain, trauma, illusion and conditioning, it can feel like a never ending journey through a dark cave as vast as the night sky with no end in sight. But as painful as growth is, it is unbelievably necessary. Expansion beyond our societal conditioning is crucial for the evolution of humankind. Above all, be gentle, kind and compassionate to yourself.

Remember, everyone's journey is going to be different. If you are stepping onto your mat purely for the physical benefits of the practise, that is fantastic! I too, stepped on my mat for that reason but quickly learned that the practise goes far beyond the physical. It became a place of solace, of communion where my mind, my heart and my body could all meet. Where I could begin to trust the wisdom of all three elements. It also sparked the journey towards discovering my soul's radiance, which is a continuous process of discovery of which I will share some of the practices and healing modalities I have discovered along the way.

If you are brand new to yoga, I want you to know that I am here for you. Please don't be perturbed by all the super yogis out there on social media. Whilst these peak poses are highly impressive, sadly, it has become a practise of the ego, a practise of yogic gymnastics. I too struggle with comparing myself to these incredible yogis. But I want you to know that whilst these are amazing goals to aspire to, whether or not you can do a handstand or get yourself into a super bendy pretzel shape does not determine your worth and value as a human. I'm going to repeat that:

Impressive yoga poses do not determine your worth and value as a human!

So please do not compare yourself to anyone you see on social media, in a class environment or anywhere else. Your body is beautiful and enough and everyone is at a different point on their journey. Any movement practices you partake in should be a celebration of all your body is capable of and not a punishment for what you're unable to do... yet!

Yoga goes far beyond the physical. And I am excited to support you in any way I can throughout your journey on and off the mat.

Until next time, curious heart.
